I visited the Handmade Burger Co Restaurant at Braehead Glasgow. They quote themselves as a family-owned independent.
The restaurant is situated among other eateries in a shopping centre, so is open plan and very bright and airy as the ceiling is some 10 metres above you. It was very clean and tidy, and the table layout was not too cramped, with an option of booths as well as tables to sit at.
It looked busy when we arrived, but we were greeted promptly and immediately seated. The waitress was friendly and chatty, saw us to our table, and gave us menus and took a drinks order. We were then given sufficient time to view the menu.
I was reviewing the Vegan Menu, where there were six choices. This may not seem like many, however, it is a "burger joint" and the non-vegan choices were beefburgers and chicken burgers etc., so six choices compared favourably with that. There was a choice of Cajun, Mexican, Middle Eastern (Falafel), Thai, Sweet Potato & Bean and Goats Cheese dishes.
I opted for "VEG-MEX" a delicious Veggie patty, handmade Mexican Salsa, hand crushed avocado, jalapenos, lettuce, tomato and red onion. (they do like to stress the handmade in their name!) We ordered a side of onion rings and one of the fries which are done in their skins. Just as well we only ordered one of each between two as it was a struggle to eat it all. Loved it.
Drinks, by the way, you can have original soft drinks, or for 30p more draft which you can refill yourself as often as you like.
The staff came to check everything was alright with your order and if you needed anything else, and after that left you in peace which I like.
They also offer Gluten Free, Allergy Menu & Kids Menu options.
Vegan choices were £7.95 - £8.75 which I think is good value. Burgers are just under £10 but I saw huge burgers you couldn't bite into in one mouthful, packed with salad, relish, mayo and red onions, so looked like value for money.
We have since been back and would highly recommend it. Summing up, Friendly staff, good food relaxed atmosphere a real pleasurable experience.
